Most of India is working from home during the nationwide lockdown imposed to stop the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the country might not be ready for it just yet. At least that is what research and studies suggest.
And not all of it is related to infrastructure either. Indian employees tend to work in silos and are not geared for remote communication. Three in four employees in India lack teamwork capabilities while 90% of them are incapable of making decisions, according to a report by SCIKEY MindMatch Report.
The report says that employees need to possess ‘crucial traits’ for productive work from home regime. For this, companies need to encourage high productivity amongst their remote working employees.
Many employees are instruction driven which is directly linked to delivery. “Understanding the mindset of the workforce is extremely crucial especially during these extraordinary times. To enhance the employee productivity, managers and team leaders need to identify the driving force of their employees and engage with them accordingly,” Shriram Viswanathan, co-founder, SCIKEY said.
Organizations too need to brace for the economic impact of the virus. According to Paysquare, a payroll processing solutions company, businesses implement a ‘remote payroll infrastructure’ so as to retain employees.
“Enterprises at present are not only staring at massive disruptions of their revenue-generating processes but are also battling with low employee morale and productivity. Since work from home as a concept is new for a large segment of businesses, it is necessary for organisation heads to invest in the remote HR and payroll ecosystem,” said Rakesh Jain, CEO and founder at Paysquare.
Moreover, remote working also poses challenges like data breach. “We highly recommend enterprises to invest in cloud-powered, robust and most of all secure payroll platforms to leverage uninterrupted payroll processes including monitoring employee attendance and work hours to minimize productivity loss,’’ added Jain.
Jain says that HR policies and services like ESS (Employee Self Service) portals, employee performance management tools can ensure transparency during the crisis.
